RI plan to imitate Korea`s, China`s online supervisory system

ANTARA News, Jakarta, Thu, 11/20/2008

The government is considering a possibility of imitating Korea`s and China`s ways of supervising the procurement of goods and services within the scope of government institutions, Minister for Administrative Reform, Taufk Effendi, said here Wednesday.

"Both countries have set goods and services supervision system online. We are exploring the possibility of imitating the two systems," he said.

However, Taufik said that the plans would be discussed internally at the ministry first before it was brought to the House of Representatives.

"We will test the system, and we will study it first," Taufik said.

The application of the online system of supervising goods and services within the scope of the government offices was needed to minimize the number of corruption cases.

Through the online system, he said, any payment or cooperation with other parties would be directly controlled.

Furthermore, Taufik stated that the success to eradicate corruption was not only about carrying out formal programs but should also be accompanied with a strong commitment, consistency, and integrity.

"One more thing, we must change our paradigm. Let`s not only focus on the law, but also the effectiveness of the law and regulations to protect our public servants and people," he said.
