THE CONSULATE >> THE HISTORY

 

The decision to open a Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia in Cape Town shows a strong commitment from the Indonesian government and its public in developing a good relationship with the South African people, which leads to the development of Indonesia in the eye of the world. Considering this decision, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia released a decree to have its representation in Cape Town, South Africa, which officially opened on 15th September 1994 with consular jurisdiction over the Provinces of Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Free State.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Cape Town has been given the directions of activity and competence to protect, according to the laws and regulations of both states, as well as the rules and principles of the international law, the rights and interests of Indonesian citizens and legal persons, to contribute to the development of economic, trade, tourism, cultural, education, scientific and technical relations and to support the development of cordial relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of South Africa.

Vision

The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Cape Town is viewed as the window to Indonesia at its consular jurisdiction over the provinces of Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and the Free State in South Africa.

Mission

  1. To maintain support by the South African society within the area of its consular jurisdiction over the recognition of the unity of Indonesia as a nation.
  2. To enhance the image of Indonesia within area of its consular jurisdiction.
  3. To improve the service for and the well-being of the Indonesian citizens and Indonesian Corporate Bodies within the area of its consular jurisdiction.
  4. To improve cordial relations between Indonesia and the Provinces within its consular jurisdiction in the field of economic, trade, tourism, cultural, education, scientific and technical relations for the enhancement of the well-being of Indonesian citizens.
  5. To improve the facility for Indonesian citizen in obtaining job opportunity in the provinces within its consular jurisdiction.
  6. To contribute to the enhancement of the relation and cooperation between Indonesia and South Africa.
  7. To increase coordination and synergy in the implementation of main duties and functions between the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Cape Town and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pretoria.
